Within the groups rough cut thriller opening they cover many good editing techniques such as a variety in the pace of cuts, they keep within the 180 degree rule also, there are no gaps or accidental complete black outs. There are no noticeable continuity errors.

The camera work is a strong feature of this thriller opening, they use a variety of close up and long shots and a full 360 degree turn which comes across as very effective. The shots are all steady and really well done, the framing is also good.

The Mise En Scene for this is also well thought out the character is seen matching the times of day of the pieces for example in the morning he is seen wearing a dressing gown where as during the day he is seen wearing a suit. The props are also thought out such as he is carrying a black bag in his hand when walking down the street suggesting he is going from work, also the newspaper, toast and drink are common features seen in the everyday mornings of many everyday people. The location is an everyday location of a street and a house making it appeal to the audience more as it comes across as realistic. The body language is relaxed until he realises he has seen this before then he changes to a shocked facial expressions and the rise in his shoulders makes it apparent he is shocked.

The non digetic sound is a ticking noise which creates tension and makes the audience tense to know what is going to happen next. No speech is used in the opening as it lets the storyline remain as suspicious.

The thriller works well overall because it uses the common features seen in existing thrillers such as seeing the future, the use of eyes etc.

  2. FEEDBACK - Dom

The editing in this sequence doesn't do anything too extravagant meaning that the editing used is executed very well and to a high standard. The basics are performed very well for example, the 180 degree rule is not broken and the continuous style of editing they are trying to create is achieved efficiently. The cuts are long and create a tense atmosphere.

The Mise en Scene in this sequence is used very well and i believe helps to portray the character that they are aiming to portray well. For example, the two costumes used are plain, everyday work clothes that introduce a smart, formal attitude. However, the other clothes used are pyjamas and a dressing gown which give me the sense that the character leads a quiet, relaxed lifde through the idea that he has time to sit in pyjamas eating breakfast and reading a newspaper whereas many working people would have to rush in the morning in order to complete everyday tasks well. Props are used in this sequence and create a sense of normality and relaity. For example when we see the character walking down the street, we see him holding a black suitcase. This is something that normal people would carry to work and so portrays him as an everyday working man, that doesn't let on the fact that he has had disaster such as 'the crash' in his life. The newspaper is a key prop in this sequence as it changes the image of the character from relaxed to tensed and stressed. This is enforced through the use of a close up.

The 'close up' is a commmon example of camerawork that is used consistently and effectively. The high standard of this 'close up' is used many times to draw attention to features that give two impressions of involvement that the character may have. Two examples I have covered are the normality of the briefcase and the sudden involvement the character has when the close up of words in the newspaper for example 'crash' and 'investigation' but another example is the common feature used in thrillers of eyes. The eyes of the character appear to be relaxed and calm. However, the sudden close ups of the injured body parts give a completely different impression.
